search engine optimisation tips

spider friendly websites

The search engine optimisation techniques here are safe to use.

All of these tips here are published by Google as good practice, so have faith in what I am telling you.

Established Sites

If you have an established site, then it can be a little harder to implement SEO into it. Good optimisation commences at the very beginning of designing a site, and that starts with the naming of it.

If you have an established site, then you need to reconsider your file structure within the website. So if you are selling, baseball cards, and your URL is already www.sportingstuff.co.uk then you need a folder within your root folder named /baseballcards/ and then pages within that folder named cardsforsale.html or rarebaseballcards.html. Your URL for one of these pages would be seen by a robot as www.sportinggoods.co.uk/baseballcards/rarebaseballcards.html as you can see, the address is healthy due to relevant keywords within the structure of your site.

New Sites

If you want a site that sells, using googles example, Baseball Cards, then you wouldn't use a website URL like, www.sportingstuff.co.uk, you would need to consider www.anamebaseballcards.co.uk instead as there are keywords within the URL. This helps relevancy a great deal. You can further help bots by then creating a relevant structure to your folders by naming your folders. See the tip above in 'established sites'.

A search spider will take note of a website named with keywords. Don't over do it though. forget stuffing your URL with keywords, like www.olliesbaseballandbaseballcardsbasecardsball.co.uk, you will not be considered for ranking, this technique is called spamming or black hatting.
