Google and Yahoo use mathmatical equations called algorithms to calculate how relevant your site is in comparison to 'Mr. Joe Bloggs' search terms he has just typed in, in a hope to find your rich content that he is going to be interested in?
These algorithms are not seceret equations; after all the mighty Google don't want to make it too hard for people like you to make a relevant site that is easy for them to find and display to it's search users.
